A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Utah following a high-speed road rage incident on Interstate 80, where he allegedly attempted to run a Tesla off the road in what authorities described as a deliberate and dangerous act.
OSCAR FAYANI was taken into custody on Friday morning after Utah Highway Patrol troopers reported that he intentionally collided with a Tesla while driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph, according to an affidavit obtained by KSL.com. The incident unfolded after multiple 911 calls around 10 a.m. reported a gold sedan engaging in reckless driving and aggressive behavior toward a black Tesla.
Witnesses detailed that the sedan was weaving through lanes, tailgating, blocking other vehicles, and reaching speeds of up to 120 mph. One driver recounted accelerating to 95 mph to escape the erratic vehicle. The Tesla driver informed troopers that the gold sedan rammed his car intentionally and continued to pursue him even after he exited the freeway to evade the confrontation. Upon re-entering I-80 minutes later, the Tesla driver claimed the sedan was waiting and attempted to force him off the road once more.
Troopers intercepted the suspect’s vehicle near the Great Saltair, where FAYANI was found driving on a revoked license and with two active out-of-area warrants. A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered drug paraphernalia, a marijuana roller, and two small baggies containing a white powder that later tested positive for cocaine.
FAYANI was booked into the Tooele County Jail and faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a possible road rage enhancement, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the two warrants. His total bond was set at $910.
While authorities have not confirmed whether the incident was a targeted attack, it aligns with a growing trend of vandalism and hostility toward Tesla vehicles and the company’s CEO, ELON MUSK. Drivers of Tesla vehicles have reported harassment at charging stations by gas-powered vehicles, a phenomenon known as “ICEing,” while others have documented acts of vandalism such as keying, window smashing, and tire slashing using the vehicles’ Sentry Mode cameras.
Tesla dealerships across the U.S. have also seen a surge in vandalism. In March 2025, a Tesla dealership in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, was defaced with graffiti criticizing former President Donald Trump and MUSK. In Kansas City, Missouri, a college student faced charges for allegedly firebombing a Tesla dealership, damaging two Cybertrucks and charging stations. In Loveland, Colorado, an individual was arrested for throwing Molotov cocktails at a Tesla dealership and spray-painting Nazi symbols and obscenities targeting MUSK, resulting in approximately $220,000 in damages.
Similar incidents have been reported in California, Texas, and New York, often involving politically charged graffiti and vandalism.
The Tooele County Police Department has not yet responded to requests for comment.
