U.S. Transportation Secretary SEAN DUFFY Witnesses Violent Attack on Police Officer in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Transportation Secretary SEAN DUFFY unexpectedly encountered a violent incident involving a police officer in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday afternoon. In a post on X, Duffy recounted that he was en route to the Navy Yard Metro Station when his staff informed him that a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) police officer had been stabbed in the face. Duffy was preparing to discuss transit safety when he learned of the attack.

The WMATA later confirmed details of the incident to Fox News Digital, stating that the officer was stabbed with a sharp metal object by a suspect who had refused to pay the fare at the station. The suspect has been detained and charged with assault, with prosecution to follow, according to the organization. The officer suffered lacerations and puncture wounds to the face but is in stable condition. Additional officers apprehended the suspect, recovered the weapon, and placed the individual under arrest.

On social media, Duffy condemned the attack as “horrible” and expressed his support for the injured officer. “My thoughts are with his family, and we pray for his speedy recovery,” Duffy wrote. “These acts of senseless violence are exactly why @USDOT is fighting to re-secure our transit systems and crack down on violent crime.”

Duffy also announced plans to meet with the WMATA CEO to address the incident. He shared photos of himself shaking hands with police officers and noted that the victim was in good spirits following the attack. “Thankfully, the officer who was attacked was in good spirits after the incident,” Duffy explained. “The @USDOT security detail was able to provide him first aid. He said he gets bitten, beaten, and attacked almost every day.”

In a video posted shortly after the incident, Duffy appeared visibly shaken. “I was gonna go down and talk to people right in the subway, talk about the safety and cleanliness,” he said. “But before I was going to go down, one of our Metro cops was stabbed in the face by someone down in the system. Again, unacceptable. Our officers, our people deserve to be treated better.”

Duffy concluded his remarks by expressing gratitude to law enforcement. “My thanks go out to him and all the brave officers of @MetroTransitPD,” he said. “They put their lives on the line each and every day to keep us safe. Violence against them cannot be tolerated, and we must do better.”
