Over Two Dozen Students Hospitalized After Chicago School Bus Collides with SUV

More than two dozen students were hospitalized on Friday morning following a collision between a school bus and an SUV in Chicago. The incident occurred just after 7:30 a.m. on the city’s southwest side, according to officials from the CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT.

The school bus, transporting students from OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123, was stopped at a red light when a 64-year-old man driving an SUV attempted a right turn in front of the bus. Officials reported that the bus struck the passenger side of the SUV during the maneuver.

In response to the crash, emergency personnel transported six students and the two drivers to LITTLE COMPANY OF MARY HOSPITAL, six students to CHRIST HOSPITAL, and five students to HOLY CROSS HOSPITAL. All individuals involved are reported to be in fair condition, authorities confirmed. Citations against the SUV driver are pending as the investigation continues.

The school district has not yet responded to requests for comment from FOX NEWS DIGITAL.

This incident follows a tragic school bus crash in South Carolina less than a month earlier, where a 13-year-old student, JOSE MARIE GONZALES LINARES, lost his life, and five others were critically injured. That crash occurred when the bus blew a tire and overturned on the highway, resulting in 17 additional students being transported to hospitals via ambulance or helicopter.
