A homeless man in California received an unexpected Easter blessing after his lottery ticket reportedly won him a staggering $1 million. Earlier this month, WILSON SAAMAAN, the owner of Sandy’s Liquor in San Luis Obispo, shared the heartwarming story with the L.A. Times. The winner, a longtime customer of the store, purchased the winning scratcher ticket from Sandy’s Liquor.
WILSON SAAMAAN expressed his excitement, stating, “I was so excited, even more than him. He’s a good person. He deserves every penny. I was very excited it happened to a person who deserved it, and he actually needed it.” Initially, the winner believed he had won $100,000, but SAAMAAN informed him that the prize was even larger—$1 million.
To celebrate the win, SAAMAAN shared a photo of the winning ticket and the ceremonial big check on the store’s Instagram page, captioning the post, “Big congrats to our loyal customer on his $1 million jackpot-winning scratch ticket at Sandy’s.”
The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed his plans to purchase a house and a car with his newfound fortune. SAAMAAN, who has a close relationship with the winner, ensured he could secure his winnings by driving him to the California Lottery office in Fresno.
The California Lottery is still verifying the win, and a spokesperson told the L.A. Times that the process could take several weeks. As the retailer that sold the winning ticket, Sandy’s Liquor will also benefit, receiving $5,000—a 0.5% share of the jackpot.
Fox News Digital reached out to the California Lottery for further comment.
