Florida Woman Impersonates ICE Agent to Kidnap Ex-Boyfriend’s Wife, Authorities Say

A Florida woman, LATRANCE BATTLE, 52, was arrested after allegedly posing as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent and kidnapping her ex-boyfriend’s wife from her workplace, according to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on April 10 at a hotel chain where the victim was employed.

BATTLE arrived at the victim’s workplace wearing a black shirt with “ICE” printed on the front, carrying a hand-held radio, and flashing a sheriff’s office business card. She instructed the victim to leave with her, falsely claiming to be an ICE agent. Authorities reported that the victim, who is in the process of becoming a legal U.S. resident, complied out of fear, believing BATTLE was a legitimate officer.

During the car ride, BATTLE spoke into her radio, further convincing the victim of her authority. The victim attempted to call her husband and lawyer, but BATTLE forcibly took her phone. Suspicion arose when they arrived at the Bridge Plaza apartment complex, where BATTLE claimed additional ICE agents would meet them. Instead, the victim fled while BATTLE entered the apartment.

The woman hid behind a neighbor’s car and later sought refuge in the neighbor’s apartment until law enforcement arrived. The neighbor reported that BATTLE asked if he had seen a woman running and claimed she took the victim’s phone because “she knows what she did.”

The victim’s husband identified BATTLE as his ex-girlfriend, recalling a prior incident where she had attacked him at his workplace, leading to a restraining order.

BATTLE was apprehended while en route to Alabama and faces charges including kidnapping in commission of a felony, robbery by sudden snatching, impersonating a law enforcement officer in the commission of a felony, and felony violation of probation.
