Florida State University Tragedy: Two Lives Lost in Mass Shooting, Suspect Identified

In a devastating incident on Thursday afternoon, two individuals were killed and six others injured during a mass shooting at Florida State University (FSU). The victims have been identified as ROBERT MORALES and TIRU CHABBA, both cherished family men and employees at the university. Authorities confirmed that the six wounded victims are expected to recover fully.

The suspect, PHOENIX IKNER, a 20-year-old FSU student and stepson of a Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputy, was shot by Tallahassee police after refusing to comply with commands. According to officials, Ikner allegedly used his mother’s weapon in the attack.

ROBERT MORALES, a former assistant football coach at Leon High School, was remembered as a dedicated mentor and beloved member of the athletic community. The school released a statement honoring his legacy: “Coach Morales was a trusted coach, a respected colleague, and a cherished friend to many.” A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support his wife, BETTY MORALES, and their daughter, raising over $31,000 by Friday afternoon.

TIRU CHABBA, a 45-year-old father of two from Greenville, South Carolina, was working as an employee for a campus vendor at the time of the shooting. The Strom Law Firm, representing Chabba’s family, described him as a “loving father and devoted husband” and vowed to seek justice for his untimely death.

Aramark Collegiate Hospitality, where Chabba served as a regional vice president, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “We are absolutely shaken by the news,” the company stated.

FSU has canceled classes through Friday and athletic events through the weekend. A vigil was held Friday evening at Langford Green in front of the Unconquered Statue to honor the victims.

BAKARI SELLERS, a national civil rights attorney with Strom Law, announced that he and colleague JIM BANNISTER will represent Chabba’s family in future legal proceedings. “We are prayerful for a complete and thorough investigation and pray for all families affected,” Sellers wrote on X.

The university community continues to mourn the loss of Morales and Chabba while supporting those affected by this senseless act of violence.
