CIA Launches Mandarin Recruitment Videos Targeting Chinese Dissidents to Spy for the U.S.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has unveiled two professionally produced, Hollywood-style videos aimed at recruiting Chinese dissidents to gather intelligence for the United States. Both videos, approximately three minutes in length and entirely in Mandarin, are part of a strategic effort to attract individuals willing to assist the U.S. in its intelligence operations.

JOHN RATCLIFFE, CIA Director, emphasized the agency’s mission in an exclusive interview with Fox News: “One of the primary roles of the CIA is to collect intelligence for the president and for our policymakers. One of the ways we do that is by recruiting assets that can help us steal secrets.”

The videos are now live on the CIA’s social media channels, including YouTube, Facebook, Telegram, Instagram, and X. The first video targets senior leaders within the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), whom U.S. intelligence officials believe may be open to collaboration. The video highlights the risks these leaders face, including being fired, jailed, or even disappearing, and concludes with the message: “Grasp your fate in your hands.”

RATCLIFFE explained, “This video explains to them how they can contact the CIA through our dark website and have an ability to improve their safety and well-being and that of their family.”

The second video is tailored to junior CCP officers, who often face limited career advancement opportunities and see their efforts primarily benefiting the CCP elite. It ends with the phrase: “Heaven helps those who help themselves. Your fate is in your control.”

RATCLIFFE expressed confidence that the videos will bypass China’s Great Firewall and reach the intended audience. The CIA previously tested a Mandarin recruitment video that garnered millions of views. “The agency’s line is open,” he said, urging individuals in China to come forward while assuring them of confidentiality.

“We’re moving forward and putting more distance between the United States and China early on in the Trump administration, and that’s going to continue,” RATCLIFFE added.

The videos mark a bold step in the CIA’s efforts to strengthen its intelligence network amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and China.
