The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has reported alarming statistics in its 2024 Annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, revealing a 5% increase from 2023 and a staggering 926% surge since the organization began tracking data in 1979. A total of 9,354 antisemitic incidents were recorded in 2024, averaging more than 25 targeted anti-Jewish incidents per day—more than one every hour. This marks the fourth consecutive year that antisemitic incidents have broken previous records, with the ADL attributing the spike to the aftermath of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel.
The audit detailed the breakdown of incidents: 196 assaults (a 21% increase from 2023), 2,606 acts of vandalism (up 20%), and 6,552 harassment cases (up from 6,535 in 2023). For the first time, a majority of incidents (58%, or 5,452) were linked to Israel or Zionism, with 2,596 occurring at anti-Israel rallies. These included antisemitic speeches, chants, and slogans. The ADL emphasized that it counted antisemitic expressions at rallies as single incidents, regardless of repetition.
JONATHAN GREENBLATT, CEO of the ADL, described the findings as unprecedented. “Antisemitism is an irrational hatred of individuals or institutions just because they are Jewish,” he told Fox News Digital. “We’ve been conducting this audit since the 1970s, and we’ve simply never seen numbers like this.” Greenblatt highlighted the grim reality faced by American Jewish communities, who carry a constant fear of being targeted despite leading ordinary lives.
College campuses emerged as hotspots for antisemitic activity, with a reported 84% increase in incidents. The ADL recorded 1,694 antisemitic incidents on campuses in 2024, accounting for 18% of all incidents—the highest proportion in the audit’s history. Groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) were identified as the most active organizers or co-sponsors of protests where antisemitic incidents occurred.
OREN SEGAL, ADL’s Senior Vice President for Counter-Extremism and Intelligence, urged Americans to view the audit as a call to action. “It’s not just a data point we release one day and then do nothing for the remaining 364 days,” he said. “It’s actually a blueprint and a guide for where we have to focus our advocacy, research, and work in general.”
The ADL also clarified that it does not conflate criticisms of Israel’s government with antisemitism. “If you’re looking for robust debates about what’s going on in Israel that aren’t antisemitic, let me point you to Israel,” Greenblatt said. “Look at the Israeli press, the Jewish press, Jewish organizations—there’s a broad range of opinions.”
The organization’s interactive H.E.A.T. Map, tracking hate, extremism, antisemitism, and terrorism from 2016 to 2024, provides a comprehensive dataset for further analysis.
