A Frontier Airlines passenger shared a harrowing account of a near-disastrous landing in Puerto Rico, where one of the plane’s wheels broke off during touchdown. MELANI GONZALEZ WHARTON detailed the incident on Facebook, describing how her family’s flight from Florida to Puerto Rico turned into a life-threatening ordeal.
“We were landing, and the landing was very bad, aggressive, and at a high speed,” WHARTON wrote. “This caused one of the tires on the front of the plane to break and catch fire.” She added, “For a few minutes, I thought it was the end of our story here on earth.”
The incident occurred on FRONTIER FLIGHT 5306, an Airbus A321 carrying 228 passengers, as it approached Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia reported that a mechanical issue led to the wheel breaking off during landing.
Flight investigator LUIS IRIZARRY told Puerto Rico’s WAPA-TV that the co-pilot, described as young, was in command at the time of the incident. However, the quick-thinking captain reportedly took control to ensure a safe landing.
WHARTON expressed her concerns on Facebook, stating, “The reality is that we were flying in the hands of inexperts,” referencing the co-pilot’s apparent lack of experience.
No injuries were reported following the incident. Fox News Digital reached out to Frontier Airlines for comment but has yet to receive a response.
