Mesa Police Department arrested a suspected arsonist after a newly delivered Tesla Cybertruck was set ablaze at a Tesla dealership in Mesa, Arizona. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 28, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
At approximately 2:00 a.m., authorities responded to reports of an explosion at the Tesla Service Center. Witnesses reported visible smoke and flames near the building, which were traced to a Tesla Cybertruck. Footage from Fox News affiliate KSAZ-TV showed federal and state law enforcement surrounding the dealership after the fire was extinguished.
The suspect, identified as IAN MOSES, 35, allegedly vandalized the dealership by writing “THEIF” (sic) on the building before igniting the Cybertruck. Surveillance footage from the Tesla Security Center captured MOSES at the scene, leading to his arrest. Investigators also noted a suspicious van parked nearby and observed MOSES approaching it on a bicycle, prompting officers to intervene.
No injuries were reported, but the Cybertruck sustained significant damage. MOSES was booked into jail on charges of arson of a structure and property. The Mesa Police Department confirmed it is working with federal authorities, and additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
This incident is part of a broader wave of vandalism targeting Tesla properties nationwide. Recent cases include a Minnesota man accused of causing $20,000 in damage to Tesla vehicles, suspects in Florida ramming through a dealership gate to steal a Tesla, and a Las Vegas man facing federal charges for attacking a Tesla dealership.
In March, Attorney General PAM BONDI emphasized that such acts constitute “domestic terrorism” and vowed to pursue federal charges against perpetrators. “We will continue investigations that impose severe consequences on those involved in these attacks, including those operating behind the scenes to coordinate and fund these crimes,” she stated.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the arson incident to come forward. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Mesa Police Department and Tesla Inc. for further comment.
